Rangers have reached out to former Hearts midfielder Cammy Devlin, seeking the Australian’s signature for the upcoming season.
Ibrox Noise sources understand that Devlin was already on Rangers’ radar before Danny Rohl’s exit (oh that still sounds blissful to say) but the arrival of his former manager Derek McInnes may encourage the 28-year-old to join up at Ibrox.
McInnes was colossally well thought of in Gorgie, and was incredibly popular with his players, many of whom would be interested in rejoining him at Ibrox.
From the departed Lawrence Shankland, to Devlin, to Claudio Braga and defender Craig Halkett, Rangers have eyes on Hearts’ best, while the players in question monitor Rangers as well.
And Devlin, as a now free agent, is a strong one for Rangers to look at.
Devlin of course has plenty of offers on his table – he has a lot to pick from. But the chance to play under McInnes again but this time in front of 50,000 at Ibrox every other week is a gigantic lure.
Rangers are clear front runners for his signature, and of course, he’d clearly enjoy the wage hike as well!
Devlin is coming from a modest £4000 pw, 3K less than Shankland was on at Hearts.
Rangers would comfortably double that along with a signing on fee making Devlin not only much wealthier, but giving him the other carrots on offer at Ibrox.
It wouldn’t even be much upheaval for him.
Devlin of course plays a similar role to Lewis Ferguson, which suggests either McInnes wants both, or is trying to plan for the event of Ferguson not arriving.
Tochi Chukwuani also plays this role but didn’t shine at all after his arrival.
More on this transfer saga as we get it.
