Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin is 100% expected to leave the club this summer. The midfielder, who had a subversive falling out with Danny Rohl towards the tail end of last season, has gone to the World Cup. Of course, he was not available for Rangers’ final few matches of the season for reasons unknown. It was claimed to be an injury, but many accused the Belgian midfielder of faking that knock and ensuring he would be available for his World Cup call. We cannot necessarily fully blame him for this, but nevertheless it is not a good look anyway.
A Summer Exit Expected
It has been no secret for some considerable time that Raskin is keen to take the next step in his career. He will, however, only leave Rangers for a top five league club. That would be England, Italy, Germany, Spain or France.
Any club coming in from any of those leagues and Raskin will indeed be very tempted to make the move.
His form in general for Rangers has been patchy. At times strong, at other times not so much.
Captaincy Debate Among Fans
In a recent poll, Ibrox Noise learned that the majority of Rangers fans want him to be captain next season, even over Lawrence Shankland. This was a bit of a contradiction over previous polls, which chose Shankland by a mile over Raskin.
We do think that sometimes fans do not quite know what they want from one day to the next. Either way, Raskin is more likely to be moving on this summer.
The World Cup will be his showcase. It’ll be his showpiece, his chance to shine and impress himself upon potential suitor clubs for next season.
Relationship With Rohl
Raskin does not strictly intend to be at Rangers come the new campaign. He does not support Danny Rohl fully following their little exchange in the press of recent months. This is despite the fact that Rohl previously had praised him as his man on the pitch.
Raskin’s ambitions have never been with Rangers. He has been pretty clear about that.
Of course, his social media recently was propelling him towards praise regarding Standard Liège and his relationship with his former club. Indeed, that is part of a footballer’s career, whether Rangers fans appreciated it is another matter.
World Cup Shop Window
We are sure many fans will have an opinion on that, but that is another story for another day.
Raskin is looking for a route out of Rangers this summer and we know that he tried to get the move last summer and failed.
He will be hoping to finally succeed this time round.
