One massive key detail emerges from the appointment of Derek McInnes and it might just be the best news yet.
Rangers of course announced the former Aberdeen and Hearts boss on Wednesday to much fanfare, to an expectant fanbase, but one massive key detail emerges and has become very, very clear, and Rangers fans are likely to be delighted by it:
Derek McInnes is Rangers Manager.
That’s right, manager.
Not coach, not head coach, not any old watered-down garbage given to his predecessors. But outright manager.
Derek McInnes will have the full keys to Rangers’ Kingdom, entrusted fully as Walter was all those years ago.
Instead of having to live under a Sporting Director, or deal with data and board members and recruitment scouts… Derek McInnes will have control of it all.
Rangers have wisely ditched the head coach moniker for good, realising it doesn’t work at this club, and the chairman and CEO sought to bring in a proper patriarch.
Trust
They have entrusted McInnes with the principles of old, that he will dictate and have final call over Rangers’ entire football ethos.
His primary concern, of course, is the male first team, and he will manage that and the players who come in.
But he is now given, as we say, the DNA of the club from root level and will have full veto power over all football at Ibrox.
No one would pretend that McInnes is going to be Walter Smith. We can’t possibly know yet how the man will perform in the role.
But he now has every single tool at his disposal to be a success, and only his own ability are his limits.
This wasn’t the way at Hearts. They use Jamestown, a gigantic football analytics firm which dictates all football operations. He was head coach, and instructed from above.
