It has been claimed in the past 24 that Rangers have completed a deal in principle for out-of-contract Hearts midfielder Cammy Devlin.

As Ibrox Noise reported recently, manager Derek McInnes cleverly ‘confirmed’ Rangers’ interest in the Australia international, having been his boss of course at Tynecastle.

Reported

And it’s been further reported since then that the deal is now complete and only requires a signature and medical.

FitbaZone on X exclusively reported this one and we have no reason to distrust this story. They are a credible account with major players in their ranks.

The 28-year-old is of course a free agent. He was weighing up his options. But it seems the lure of following Derek McInnes and joining Scotland’s biggest club was too much.

Third signing

It has been reported it could be signed, sealed and delivered before the end of the week. This would make him Derek McInnes’ third summer signing after Lawrence Shankland and Ross McCrorie.

Devlin would be a departure from the ‘Rangers man’ core McInnes is putting together in the squad. We’re not aware of any affiliations the Sydney-born midfielder has with Rangers. Indeed there is actually a jesting acrimony with his partner’s father. He is a major Rangers man and he jabbed at him for being a Hearts player.

We think Devlin is likely neutral. He’s just happy to play for the biggest club in Scotland under a manager he knows well.

We doubt it would be long before his (future?) father in law is his best friend and Devlin will buy into all things Rangers.

McInnes is setting out his stall. A combination of quality, grit, Scottish and Rangers – two ex-Hearts players now and of course a Rangers boy himself in McCrorie.

It’s a decent balance, and we wonder who will be next on McInnes’ shopping list.
