Danny Rohl to Salzburg makes perfect sense for Rangers

Danny Rohl to RB Salzburg really has caught fire in the last two hours with Sky agencies all over Europe confirming the Austrians are 100% interested in Rangers’ head coach.

This was initially broken by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg on an exclusive basis before his various colleagues at international Sky caught wind of it too.

The information we have is that Salzburg have already contacted Rangers regarding their former charge and negotiations are underway regarding his potential exit.

Rohl is said to be very interested in the move.

This could in fact be a genius move all round with everyone happy.

Andrew Cavenagh of course swore blind by Rohl. Ibrox Noise posited the theory that indeed Keith Jackson was onto something. And that was Cavenagh trying to drive up Rohl’s market value. Why? So any suitor club would have to compensate Rangers fully.

If these negotiations come to pass, Rangers will not only not have to cough up millions in firing Rohl, but they in fact receive compensation for his exit. He does not have a release exit in his three-year deal.

Then there’s Derek McInnes. Widely-regarded by many as a Rangers manager in waiting, there’s no doubt if Rohl goes, he’s at the top of the list to replace him.

There’s Kevin Muscat and Steven Gerrard too, but McInnes would probably be prime choice.

And then there’s the timing. Muscat is probably a no-go because of Shanghai Port’s season. It is heavily underway until November now. But McInnes in now would have the full preseason to prepare for next campaign at Ibrox.

Indeed, any manager would have.

There’s also the world cup angle. There’s so much work to do at Ibrox. But Rohl instead chose to leave for a month to cover the world cup with some German broadcaster?

Yes, time off and all that. But the guy completely f*cked up the end of the season then gaslit everyone over it.

Not sure our sympathy is terribly extensive for him here.

Either way, Salzburg are talking to Rangers, and Rohl is understood to be keen on the move.

So are we.
