The claims being made in the past 24 hours that Rangers will only receive £2M compensation for Danny Rohl while only paying £500,000 for Derek McInnes feel a speck unrealistic.
Danny Rohl was given the Rangers job on a basis of higher pay than the original numbers. Former Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell had to bribe Rohl to come back after his withdrawal, and he did so on the guarantee of better pay and a longer deal.
Deal
The idea that a three and a half year deal as it was in October will only set Red Bull Salzburg back £2M is a touch of flight of fancy.
Furthermore Derek McInnes also had a multiyear contract at Hearts. So the notion Rangers have gotten him for half a million is at best fanciful and at worse pure false.
Steven Gerrard literally cost Aston Villa £4.5M in compensation. And Gerrard’s contract was also due to expire in 3 years from his Ibrox exit. Compensation claims feel off.
The idea that Rohl only cost RB Salzburg £2M in compensation is optimistic at best. And the idea Rangers only shelled out half a million on McInnes’ deal is weak at best. McInnes was on a four-year contract and had only served one of them.
Questions
Are we really saying his salary was around £150,000 per year?! Even at Hearts, one of Scotland’s bigger clubs, that’s peanuts.
So the likelihood is Rohl’s compensation is much closer to £5M, while McInnes’ number is closer to £1.5M.
AKA – Rangers pulled off a blinder getting shot of Rohl. And getting such a big sum for him. While only paying a modest amount for his replacement.
In truth, the numbers being recently reported don’t add up on any level. While we weren’t privy to Rohl or McInnes’ personal contracts, logic is pretty abundant that the sums don’t make sense.
Either way though, Rangers have pulled off a masterstroke over getting rid of a rubbish manager for a huge compensation fee, and bringing in a great one for comparative pennies.
