Only 10 days ago or so, Nico Raskin was to be Danny Rohl’s new Rangers captain to replace outgoing leader, James Tavernier.
Oh what difference a week or so makes. A falling out behind the scenes, a public spat of differing opinions between the two, and Raskin’s captaincy under Rohl is now 100% dead.
Raskin was of course omitted from the playing squad to face Celtic, despite being fit. Rohl told a little fib about a Raskin injury.
So what now for Raskin, as Rohl’s Rangers exit starts to look inevitable. Ibrox Noise has of course reported that the club and he will part company by mutual consent.

But where does this leave the Belgian international?
One of his big issues is his repeated acrimony with almost every manager he works under. Deila at Standard Liege, Ferguson at Rangers, and both of his successors Martin and Rohl.
We know that Raskin is tempestuous so we are not blaming Rohl completely on this one, but Raskin does have a track record.
It is widely known that a move elsewhere last summer for the midfielder did not materialise, and he was extremely disappointed, to quote his grandfather.
And now with his current manager looking very close to the exit, where does it position Raskin in Govan?
The answer? He needs to go too.
Nico Raskin is no captain – he is a hothead, and has a poor attitude, not to mention that clearly-stated desire to leave Rangers. He has called us ‘just a step’ in his career.
Raskin is all about himself, and just wants the Premier League. It is known he is happy also to get a move to any top five European league.
The situation of his captaincy of course is further confused. Why? By the 99% certain exit of Rohl who was going to promote him.
This now means Raskin will be unlikely to be given the armband by Rohl’s successor. Indeed, the successor will have to find some sort of leader within this ramshackle squad and we will pose that one in due course.
But then we have Raskin’s future. As Ibrox Noise reported, Raskin is up for sale. Rangers are open to bids in excess of £25M given his status with his national side and current stock.
Rangers are quite happy now to cash in on a boy who has wanted away for some time.
So from just 10 days ago and being ‘confirmed’ as next season’s captain, Raskin is now more likely to be sold.
