Uncertainty for Rangers as Danny Rohl prepares for new season

This is most definitely uncertainty for Rangers as Danny Rohl prepares for the new season to be going through at present. After everybody was blindsided by Rohl’s claim that the board have supported him, he, allegedly, will be going into the new season as Rangers manager. This is, of course, a very bizarre position, with a lame duck boss being backed by the hierarchy and who has failed in the split in the most spectacular way as Rohl has. Ibrox Noise ran a poll after the Celtic match and discovered sentiment very much against Rohl of 82% wishing him out.

We have since run another poll. We’ll report it later.

Another website, Rangers Inclined, claims that 66% of fans do not want Rohl to get the sack. This does not necessarily mean that they do not want to keep him. It just means that they do not want to see him being fired.

The Poll Divide

In truth, this is not a surprising number because even those who have had enough of Rohl still dislike the notion of repeatedly firing the manager. And we do not disagree with that notion. We do not disagree with the objections to firing everybody.

We do, however, admit and entirely support the idea that he needs to go. That could be resignation or mutual consent. Those are not ‘being sacked’. Consequently, any poll which excludes those options maybe is not looking at the full picture.

But nevertheless, the fact is that for now, it appears that Andrew Cavenagh has changed his mind. Having done his forensic internal review and decided that Rohl was not going to be taking the club forward, it may actually be internally that he has been persuaded otherwise.

Steven Gerrard Still Looms

The simple fact is, Rohl was not Cavenagh’s choice. We all know that Steven Gerrard was. Cavenagh wanted Steven Gerrard. That has not changed.

But for now, Rohl seems to have turned the tide and regained favour.

Unfortunately for him, we have two complete lame duck matches coming up. Of course, one is against Hibs at Ibrox and then the final match against Falkirk. The fact is, these matches are literally meaningless to Rangers.

There has never been two matches at this stage where so much previously had ridden on the matches leading up to them, then suddenly there is absolutely nothing.

Meaningless Matches Ahead

The only thing riding on the match against Hibs is Hibs’ own European aspirations. Four points behind Motherwell, they are desperate to secure the final Conference League spot.

It is all a bit of a surreal situation for Rangers fans in the position that we are currently placed, which is a lack of hope going into a new season.

Of course, there is the subset of Rangers fans who want Rohl to be given the keys to the kingdom and to be given the full season.

The problem is that under the pressure he is now currently facing, the players are not playing for him. Going into a new season, we are not sure what is going to change there.

A Bizarre Situation

It is a really bizarre set-up amid uncertainty for Rangers currently have and it is not terribly productive going forward. But for now, it seems like unless Rohl was outright fibbing in that conference… he is staying.
