Rangers have now unofficially confirmed two further exits at Ibrox. This is following on the heels of one or two other players whose contracts have expired. Both Kieran Wright and Leon King have confirmed their Rangers journeys have completed. Both came through the ranks at Auchenhowie and will leave with the best wishes of all Rangers fans.
Leon King’s Rangers career ends
Leon King especially made a distinct impact in the first team for a brief period. Alas for the youngster, he was thrust into the limelight at the wrong time when former manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst was forced to use him due to a colossal injury crisis in 2022.
Indeed, Rangers’ rearguard against Liverpool was Ben Davies and indeed King. Not quite what you needed for peak Mohamed Salah.
Consequently, this stunted King’s development where he had looked like he might be a promising defender at a young age.
Unfortunately, it did not work out that way. Alas he struggled terribly with the pressure and the development needed at Rangers.
He leaves with our best wishes, but his Rangers career is now officially over and he was not offered a new contract.
Kieran Wright departs after 17 years
The same applies with goalkeeper Kieran Wright. The youth product graduate failed really to make any kind of impact for Rangers at all.
Sadly, he did not even amass a single appearance as a Rangers player in his entire 17 year Rangers career.
This must go down as possibly one of the longest lasting players to not actually feature even on as a sub.
Of course, he was on the bench many times for the famous, but never came on. He never actually got a single minute as a senior player, which we do feel quite bad about.
Unfortunately, his market value (£50K) rather reflects the underwhelming career he has had.
He goes with warm wishes, and fellow Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has wished him well for his future career and said it was a pleasure to work with him.
Rangers release unsurprising but unfortunate
He is known as Ginge for obvious reasons, but sadly fell miles short even as a deputy at Rangers.
He played of course in lower level football for Rangers in the youth tournaments, such as the Irn-Bru Cup back in the day, and the Trust Cup.
But unfortunately, not as a senior Rangers player at the top level. He was unable to amass even a single appearance, and Rangers unsurprisingly have released him this summer.
He goes with our best wishes, and unfortunately of course there was one problem with both him and Leon King.
