Ibrox Noise regulars will know that while we have historic misgivings about the Daily Record like most Rangers fans, they have been bang on about 99% of their content since the takeover.
Keith Jackson and Scott Burns have nailed on so much about club internals, that it’s abundantly clear that the 49ers Enterprises installed them early on as its mouthpiece. Rangers takeover expert Keith Jackson offers HUGE take on Cavenagh and Rohl.
It was Jackson who exclusively broke the takeover well before anyone else even had a sniff of it, and that information doesn’t just grow on trees.
Andrew Cavenagh and former vice-chairman Parag Maraathe clearly chose him and his colleagues to leak this information out.
They have since added Chris Jack to their roster of media outlets.
Consquently as much as many may distrust Jackson about almost anything, he’s clearly had privy info. And he confirmed the internal review at Rangers by Cavenagh over Danny Rohl’s position.
It’s what Rangers takeover expert Jackson said last night that is great note:
————————
“This was sort of an impromptu press call today. I think it was the tail end of last week that certain guys were invited down to Ibrox to meet with Andrew Cavenagh. He clearly wanted to get messaging out there and part of the messaging he wants out there is that they are sticking with Danny Rohl.
There was a quote where he said, “Look, he’s not perfect, but we believe if he’s given a pre season and some proper signings in the transfer window, that will give him, and give us,” Andrew Cavenagh said, “as a club, the optimal chance of winning next season’s title.”
I’m still not convinced that Danny Rohl starts next season as Rangers manager.
And I should be, because I take Andrew Cavenagh at his word and he’s come out in very emphatic terms to say that’s exactly what’s going to happen. That Rangers want Danny Rohl, Danny Rohl wants to be at Rangers, therefore it will happen.
Watch this space
I just have a watch this space feeling about the Danny Rohl scenario and I can’t help but feel that he’s made matters even worse for himself with the whole James Tavernier debacle last week. So let’s see what the summer brings as far as Danny Rohl is concerned.
I think maybe we won’t need to wait until the summer. I think Danny Rohl would quite like to go back to Germany. His family’s there and I think he might have seen the asylum that is Scottish football and thought, “You know what, if I can get a gig in the Bundesliga…”
Well, he said previously when he was at Sheffield Wednesday that his long term ambition was to get to the Bundesliga. That’s where he wants to manage. You can’t blame him for that.
Elegant exit
But I do think there is the potential for an elegant exit strategy that suits all parties. Put it this way, if I was Andrew Cavenagh and I thought there was the possibility of a German club coming to the table this summer and asking for permission to speak to Danny Rohl, I think I’d be saying roughly the same sort of things and getting the same messaging out there.
“Oh, Danny’s going nowhere. We love him here. He’s our best chance of winning next season’s title.”
Effectively, you’re talking up a price rather than having the expenditure involved in sacking a manager and his backroom team. Because Rangers have had to empty out the coffers every year with another payout. It would be a nice change of pace if Rangers actually managed to get a fee for a manager for once. Instead of having to pay out of their own pocket to get rid of one.
So if I was being strategic and I was Andrew Cavenagh? I think I’d be fairly daft if I said anything other than, “Oh no, he’s our man.”
Fan reaction
A lot of Rangers fans are giving it stick now. This one sums it up. Blue Bell says, “You’ve just been told by the man he’s going to be manager next season and you’re speculating he’s still getting bumped. It’s unreal.”
But no, I do have my suspicions on this. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. And if Danny Rohl starts next season at Rangers, then good luck to him.”
————————-
In short, Jackson, who’s been so accurate this whole time about Rangers and the takeover? He believes Cavenagh is being a canny operator and trying to get rid of Rohl by marking up his value.
The more he stands by the manager, the more a German suitor has to cough up. In order that is to free him from his deal.
Meaning Rangers don’t have to spend a fortune firing or even through mutual consent, because Rohl isn’t quitting.
In fairness, Jackson’s theory may have a hell of a lot of merit. Rangers takeover expert Keith Jackson offers HUGE take on Cavenagh and Rohl.
Either Cavenagh is exactly what we’ve reported here on Ibrox Noise, or Jackson is on the money with his theory.
Let’s hope the Daily Record lad is the one correct at the end of this.
