Rangers are right back to Russell Martin with Danny Rohl circus

Just when you thought that you would never again see the likes of Russell Martin and his police escort out of Falkirk, once again, Rangers have ended up plumbing the depths into a toxic manager situation. Rangers are right back to Russell Martin with Danny Rohl circus.

It is, of course, on record just how much Ibrox Noise was against the appointment of Danny Rohl.

We saw almost everything that has happened happening.

Consequently, we strongly objected to appointing another low level manager who would be deeply out of his depth against a colossus the size of Rangers.

Rangers Need More Than Promise

You see, it is not just about a manager’s ability.

Just because a coach with some promise has shown a quality achievement in keeping a team up does not mean he is good enough or big enough to hold the mantle at Ibrox.

Ibrox is a gigantic stadium.

Rangers are a gigantic club.

We are a must win club.

Consequently, an EFL lower level manager coming into that is already completely out of their depth.

And this is a major reason why we called this appointment out, just as we had Russell Martin.

Of course, it does happen that a manager of big gravitas who has come from a big demanding club, like for example Paul Le Guen from Lyon, still struggles.

So guarantees are not assured just because the CV suggests that a manager is capable of holding the position with some gravity.

Hedging the Bets

But the absolute hedging of bets kicks in.

We are not going towards a manager who will clearly not work, and that would be Russell Martin from mid level in the Championship and Danny Rohl from lower level Championship.

The simple fact is the tide has turned. And Ibrox Noise warned from the start that this was yet another bad appointment.

Alas, we have got the last two completely correct, and of course we understand why fans would want to back Rohl and indeed any other manager.

They just want to win.

Unfortunately, it means that emotion takes over and critical thinking takes a backseat.

The reality is that anyone with any sense and not ruled by their emotions and desire purely to see Rangers win would be critical of both Rohl and Martin as appointments.

The Pressure of Ibrox

The fact is, we know that there are many fans, now former fans, of Danny Rohl who wanted him in and who believed he was the right answer. But Rangers are right back to Russell Martin with Danny Rohl circus.

This was emotion talking and a hopeful desire to see someone they liked shine at Rangers.

But the simple fact is that doing so requires mental strength that the likes of Martin and indeed Rohl do not have.

You have to be a strong willed individual who knows how to manage. Who has an aura, a presence and some tactical nous.

Rohl definitely lacks a lot of these.

He was an EFL slop manager who was not even liked by Sheffield Wednesday fans.

But the reality is, this is why Ibrox Noise called that appointment out completely from the start.

Rangers Need Strong Leadership

It takes a particular level of a psychological mindset on the part of a manager to cope with the sheer pressure and demand that Rangers have.

Rohl fell miles short of that from the start, before he was even appointed.

Obviously, Russell Martin did too.

The only way to get that right is to bring in a manager who understands the pressure properly. Not a project manager and not a potential, but someone who has been there, done that, bought the t shirt.

The simple fact is, we need someone with the mental strength of a Walter or a Stevie Gerrard.

We need someone with that kind of mentality. Otherwise Rangers are right back to Russell Martin with Danny Rohl circus.

Having the ability to manage would also help a great deal. But simply to be able to withstand the demands of this club is an absolute critical start. And it is something that so few of Rangers managers in recent years have had.

That has to change.
