Ibrox Noise recently offered a poll on who Rangers fans wanted as new captain.
This is about as emphatic as a poll result gets, and it leaves almost no room for interpretation. With over 2,000 votes cast, this is not a small sample. It is a strong slice of the active fanbase, and the outcome points in one very clear direction.
Captain Nico Raskin taking 85% is not just a win. It is a landslide. In fact, it goes beyond preference and moves into outright endorsement. When one player commands that level of support, fans are not weighing options anymore. They have already made their choice and they are backing it heavily.
Distance
What stands out even more is how far ahead he is. The gap is enormous, and that matters. It shows there is no real internal debate among supporters. There is no split between experience versus youth, or defence versus midfield. Instead, there is alignment. Raskin is seen as the leader.
This reflects what fans watch every week. He demands the ball, he drives play, and crucially, he communicates. Moreover, he has visibly acted as the manager’s conduit on the pitch. Therefore, supporters are not projecting a future captain. They are recognising the one already operating in that role.
Then you look at the chasing pack, and the contrast is stark.
Barron and Butland as new captain
Connor Barron and Jack Butland both sit on 5%. That suggests a baseline level of respect, especially in Butland’s case given his performances. However, it also shows neither is viewed as the central figure to lead the side long term.
Further down, Dujon Sterling on 2% and John Souttar on 1% underline how little appetite there is for a defensive leader at present. Given the inconsistency at the back this season, that lack of confidence is not surprising.
Interestingly, the “Another” option also only gathers 2%. That is significant. It tells us there is no hidden favourite and no external candidate fans are clamouring for. The vote is not fragmented. It is concentrated.
So the conclusion is unavoidable. This poll does not ask who might be captain. It reveals who fans already believe is captain.
If the armband becomes officially available and the club looks elsewhere, they would be ignoring one of the clearest signals the support can give. And at a club like Rangers, where connection between players and fans carries huge weight, that is not a decision taken lightly.
Right now, in the eyes of the supporters, the captaincy question already has its answer. Captain Nico Raskin is what they want.
