Lawrence Shankland will reach a new level with Rangers. How? Well Rangers fans will vividly remember the era of Scott Allan. That is, of course, the long drawn out transfer battle between Rangers and Hibs over the Easter Road prize asset, who of course was a well known Rangers man. The midfielder had all the potential in the world and was desperately wanted by Rangers back in the Championship days. He wanted the move and was a well known companion of Andy Halliday and such like. Petty Rob Petrie and of course Alan Stubbs at the time simply refused to sell Allan to Rangers. They made all kinds of excuses about rival Championship teams, but in reality it was simply because it was Rangers. Both of them could not stand Rangers and simply refused to sell the boy to Ibrox.
The Move Scott Allan Never Got
Consequently, it is definitely deemed that Scott Allan never truly reached his actual potential in football. Despite having all the ability in the world. He was deemed at the time as a potential Barry Ferguson type. Obviously with more playmaking at his disposal, but he had the skill and temperament tomake it to the top.
But he never got the move he wanted, and that of course was Rangers.
There is a school of thought that when a Rangers fan gets into football and starts to play the professional game, when they start to get good, the thing that they need and want the most is a move to their boyhood club.
Scott Allan is a quintessential example of that. A player who could have realised his true potential by getting that move to Govan, but never did.
The Celtic Mistake
Naturally, of course, as history benevolently reminds us, he ended up at Celtic. He made a very very bad decision under pressure and given absolutely no choice in the matter at a club where he had made it pretty clear he did not want to be anymore.
He made a very poor call and he rather regrets that to this day.
But nevertheless, Allan is an example of a player who, had he got the move to the team he wanted, Rangers, would have busted that extra gut. He would have stepped up that level.
Would Barry Ferguson have reached the level he got if he had not been made captain at Rangers and had not been made a prime first team member by Dick Advocaat? Who knows, he might not have.
But this is the reality.
Getting the team that you want makes so much difference to the emotion and your commitment to your job, to your game, to your team.
Why Rangers Changes Players
And Lawrence Shankland of course now has that.
Naturally, it is still to be imminently announced, but Shankland has been waiting for this move his whole career. He has been playing probably around 70 to 80% of his full capacity and now finally getting the move to Rangers, we are going to see a whole new Shankland for Rangers.
A completely new committed and even higher scoring and assisting Shankland will find a new level to step up to. Because that is what happens when Rangers fans finally get the team that they want.
When they get to play at Rangers, when they get to put on the shirt of their dreams? There is an entire new level that they get to.
What Rangers Could Unlock In Shankland
Scott Allan never got to that level. He was denied that move.
Who knows what might have been in his case. But while Shankland might have been a little too late in his career on the fraction margin he’s ready. Nevertheless, Lawrence Shankland will reach a new level with Rangers.
