Kris Boyd risks the wrath of the majority of Rangers fans after suggesting Danny Rohl would be better off leaving Rangers.
The fan favourite pundit, regularly used in memes and internet banter, spoke recently about Rohl and the Wolfsburg interest, and ‘controversially’ suggested Wolfsburg would be a better fit for him.
He said:
“Would Rangers be as stubborn if a Wolfsburg approach came in shortly?
“I doubt it would be a simple ‘No’. They would certainly have a big decision to make. If Rohl does stay in position, they will back him again in the summer transfer window.”
Boyd was very much in favour of Rohl on his arrival, just as he was regarding predecessor Russell Martin.
But as for all in the media, he is being very, very careful about saying Rohl is abundantly the wrong man to be Ibrox boss.
He went on:
“Maybe a club like Wolfsburg would suit him better at this stage of his career.
“He wouldn’t face the enormous pressure to deliver titles and trophies like he does at Rangers. Maybe that kind of environment would suit him better as he begins his managerial career.”
He is of course entirely correct. Rohl is completely out of his depth at Ibrox and any fan with sense knows it.
Alas, the majority only see the fraudulent ‘look where we were’ notion and claim Rohl took the club from bottom to title contenders.
In reality he took the side from 6th to third and we’re pretty sure even a blind monkey would have done better than Russell Martin.
And Boyd, gently, is alluding to the same.
He admitted he got Martin wrong, and he’s being more subtle in doing the same here.
But he’s likely to make a lot of enemies in the support who believe the sun shines out of Rohl’s backside.
Finally, he concluded “mutual consent” would be the best path. And as Ibrox Noise understands, that would be the path forward.
Such is life.
