German interest in Danny Röhl is becoming impossible for Rangers fans to ignore now. While debate still rages in Scotland over whether the manager should remain in charge next season, the perception of him back in his homeland is dramatically different.

Indeed, German media and Bundesliga insiders continue to speak about Röhl with enormous respect. The latest evidence came via Sky Sport DE and its major Transfer Update show, where the Rangers boss was discussed as one of Europe’s emerging coaching names.

The programme made it crystal clear that Röhl’s work at Ibrox has not gone unnoticed in Germany. While some Rangers fans remain unconvinced after the collapse in the title race and the damaging defeat to Celtic, Germany appears to view the bigger picture.

As Sky Germany explained:

“Danny Röhl in Scotland has caused a huge stir at Glasgow Rangers. You could say he has turned that massive club back into a big team again.

He has had a very strong season. At one point, he made up 13 points. The title, which had looked completely unthinkable for a while, suddenly became possible again. But then Rangers lost the Old Firm against Celtic and, naturally, there was some mockery, especially from Celtic fans.

However, we can say clearly that he has coached himself into the spotlight. There is at least early interest from the Bundesliga. Wolfsburg have signalled interest, Union Berlin as well and Leverkusen have shown at least some loose interest. Danny Röhl also has international enquiries.

He has had a really strong season with Rangers. From a Rangers point of view, losing the title late on, especially against Celtic, is brutally bitter.

Exactly. You can only take your hat off to him as a developer of players. It was a top season at a very difficult club.”

That is a remarkable assessment when contrasted with some of the hostility currently aimed at the Rangers boss from sections of the support. In Germany, Röhl is increasingly viewed as an elite young tactician who revived a fallen giant and nearly pulled off the impossible.

The references to VfL Wolfsburg, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and are especially significant. These are not minor clubs. They are established Bundesliga sides with serious ambitions and strong reputations albeit Wolfburg have been relegated.

It underlines something Rangers fans perhaps do not fully appreciate. Back in Germany, Röhl’s stock is extremely high. While Scotland remains divided over him, his homeland appears convinced he is a coach destined for the very top.
