Danny Rohl makes Rangers move (again) for Josh Windass

Ibrox Noise understands that recent reports linking Rangers with a move for Josh Windass of Wrexham are indeed true. It is widely known that Danny Rohl is a big admirer of the Wrexham playmaker. He, of course, worked alongside him at Sheffield Wednesday, and naturally, Rangers fans are only too well aware of Windass from his time at Ibrox. Just in time for James Tavernier to leave Rangers, Rangers are now seeking to find a new player who is just as divisive as he was. We recall just how split down the middle Rangers fans were when Josh Windass played for us previously.

Rohl Wants Windass Again

Rohl is a huge admirer of this lad and tried to get him in January, only to be rebuffed by Ryan Reynolds and co. Today, he is trying to get him again. The reality is that Wrexham will still be a Championship team next season, and Josh Windass is not going want to be part of that. Put simply, he wants PL.

But just like Dan Neil at Sunderland, and just like Joe Rothwell at Bournemouth, he is not strong enough to play for Wrexham in the Premier League. That club will require sustained levels of new players of a Premier League standard to cope with England’s top flight and the world’s hardest league if they get there.

Rangers Fans Remain Divided

Windass falls considerably short, but Rohl is a huge fan of his and, as we said, failed in January to secure his services. He has gone back in for him and sees him as his number 10. He wants Josh Windass to be Rangers’ playmaker.

Josh Windass did not particularly shine in the Championship for Rangers. We are not exactly convinced he is going to be much better in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers. Rangers are an absolute must win, and Windass, while he could score box to box, distinctly lacked discipline. He certainly caused a dichotomy of paradoxes around Rangers circles due to just how divisive he was.

Serious Questions Over Recruitment

At the end of the day, this interest is confirmed and, if Rohl gets his man, we will certainly question his wisdom here. We had softened towards Rangers’ manager with the imminent acquisition of Lawrence Shankland, but interest in Windass seems to be going exactly the other way.

You do not just go for a whole bunch of Championship level players simply because you used to work with them. Windass, Pierce Charles, Djeidi Gassama, these guys are well below the level Rangers need. If Rohl believes this is what Rangers require going forward, well, we already know we can question his judgment.
