Rangers are today licking the wounds of yet another Rangers title collapse. In truth, at least this one lasted something into the split, which is not normally the case. It’s usually Celtic long run away champions by this point. But the fact is that Rangers have absolutely collapsed at the critical juncture. The latest episode of Danny Rohl’s inability to win the big time matches costing Rangers 56 for sure. The reality is that Rangers remain in exactly the same place now as they did this time last season. Nothing changes if nothing changes.
Another Rangers title collapse reality
Danny Rohl has had a ton of Rangers fans’ support over the course of this season. But that has significantly reduced over the last two matches. An appalling defeat to Motherwell at Ibrox was then supplanted by a dismal loss at Hearts. The reality is that the title is now gone for sure, and the manager is now finally coming under some questions.
January spending under scrutiny
The biggest aspect is that Rohl had a bigger budget in January than any other Old Firm manager in history. Not only did he have £13M to spend, which is greater than anything Celtic have ever spent at that time of the year, but he also got a free signing in the form of Skov Olsen, who was worth a supposed £11M. That’s a grand total of roughly £25M, even if Rangers did not fully spend that cash on the day.
Results getting worse
And to show for it, Rangers have a 50% win record in the league since January. That is, since the January window closed and February began with Rohl’s own men under his guidance. Rangers have gone backwards with his signings. Fans who were behind Rohl demanded he be judged on his own players and to be given time. We are now deep into May. Rangers’ record under Rohl with his players is in actual fact worse than it was when he was using Russell Martin’s players.
Out of his depth amid another Rangers title collapse?
Consequently, it has been an absolute disaster. The fact that we have spent more money in January than ever before and are in actual fact worse now than we have been in a long time, says that Danny Rohl is completely out of his depth. Ibrox Noise has been calling that out for many, many months and indeed were not in favour of his appointment as manager, but he has been a very popular appointment by many, not initially, but over the piece.
Future concerns remain
Obviously the usual argument is, look where we came from, as if Rangers only came into existence under Russell Martin, but that is another argument for another time. The reality is that Rohl, if given a massive summer budget, would probably just do exactly the same as he did in January. Not very much. The reality, alas, is that Rangers are too big for Danny Rohl.
