Ibrox Noise is slightly disconcerted with a story that has been doing the rounds over the past 24 hours and which has obviously led to the usual misinformation among Rangers fans. The short version is Mohamed Salah. It is not the story that has been doing the rounds, but The S*n were very manipulative with their headline on the topic. It turned into a clickbait fest for so many football and indeed Rangers sites and while Ibrox Noise does indeed need traffic for our revenue to keep the lights on, we will never mislead you and certainly never on purpose. However, the Mohamed Salah Rangers story really has ground our gears big time.
The truth behind the Mohamed Salah claim
The simple misinformation version is that Rangers are talking about signing Mohamed Salah when he becomes a free agent this summer. That would be the lie.
The quote itself, raised by Stig Inge Bjornebye (ex-Liverpool) who is a consultant and works with Rangers, is purely that Rangers were discussing Mohamed Salah’s agency in regarding general transfers and summer activity.
They were not discussing any notion of signing Mohamed Salah whatsoever, but just internally at Ibrox, there were discussions about transfers, strategies, tactics of recruitment this summer and how this also related to Mohamed Salah’s free agency, aka when Liverpool move to replace Salah.
There will be the obligatory domino effect. That is to say, his vacating the premises at Anfield will lead to a replacement.
The replacement will then require being replaced from where they come from, and so on and so forth. It will create a transfer merry go round. Especally a player as big as he.
That will affect Rangers because we have ties to Liverpool.
Why Liverpool’s business affects Rangers
Rangers, of course, had a former Liverpool legend as our manager in Steven Gerrard. Anything big that happens at Liverpool will have a knock on effect. Not just for Rangers, but for British transfers in general, and indeed the wider European market.
This is all that was being discussed. NOT the notion of signing a guy who gets around £300,000 a week.
Unfortunately, of course, the misinformation version is the one that has got through.
We know that this article will be seen by minimal people by comparison, purely because it reveals the truth and is not the shiny, sexy clickbait that says that Mohamed Salah is joining Rangers, because he is not.
Salah is not joining Rangers
Salah will almost certainly go to the Middle East.
He will make big money out there, probably in the Saudi Pro League, maybe in Qatar, who knows! But the point is he will not be staying in Britain.
The chance of Salah joining another Premier League club is next to zero. The chance of him joining Rangers is even lower.
So the simple fact is that this internal discussion about Salah was purely strategic and transfers in general. That his name came up has no relevance whatsoever to any notion of signing him.
But that does not stop the Mohamed Salah Rangers story lies getting out, as we know lies spread far quicker than the truth, and while Ibrox Noise does our best to bring the truth, we will always get swamped by the sheer weight of fake news out there.
