Ibrox Noise understands that Rangers are open to offers after sources confirmed that playmaker Thelo Aasgaard is regarded as potentially sellable this summer. The 23-year-old Norwegian international came to Ibrox under a price tag of around £5M from League One Luton Town. Ibrox Noise was against this signing, given the calibre of the player and the lack of a reputation, and of course the level he was playing at. But Rangers, under Russell Martin and then sporting director Kevin Thelwell and recruitment chief Dan Purdy, who remains in post, insisted on securing the Liverpool-born Norway cap.

However, his performances at Ibrox have lacked energy. Around 14 goals and assists are not too bad in theory. But in 44 appearances it does not exactly shine of a £5M acquisition. Not one that Rangers believe they can build a team around. Aged 23, he is at the kind of age where his potential is already being realised.
Rangers have not been spectacularly impressed with his work, but there is a lack of number 10s in the squad, meaning Aasgaard has played more than perhaps would have been desired. Rangers have a real problem with the playmaker slot. There are four options and none of them are particularly well suited.

Mohamed Diomandé has been a bit of a liability and is not naturally a playmaker, but is known to play advanced midfield more. He has not shone this season, nor has he shone at any point really since he joined for £4.5M.
Then there is Youssef Chermiti, who some fans have advocated as a potential 10. While big and strong, he lacks the finesse and the vision, although he has four assists for the season. Admittedly, that is not quite what we would call 10 material.
Then, of course, there is Mikey Moore, who is naturally a forward. His prime position is a freedom of the front three. He is not strictly a playmaker, although he has worked very hard and improved over the course of 2026. This is largely in part due to the influence of Tuur Rommens, who has supported him well on the left flank, but the left-hand side is generally Moore’s strongest area.

And lastly, the Norwegian. Rangers would be open to offers. His performances this season have, as we have said, lacked hunger and sharpness. While there is a glimpse of some talent now and again, he unfortunately lacks the gumption to work hard enough to really dig in. He is, unfortunately, to put it simply, lazy.
The potential, we could argue, does not really matter at his age. ‘Potential’ is something that is around about 20 years of age, not into the 23, 24 range. Rangers are open to shipping him out if a decent deal can be done with someone willing to spend the same kind of cash that Rangers spent.
Unfortunately, very few will be. It is the same problem that Wolves have with Nasser Djiga. They spent £10M on him, but Rangers are unwilling to spend that level of cash on him. The player can only go for what he is actually worth, not what the team misguidedly paid for them.
As for playmaker Thelo Aasgaard, we will see if anyone comes in for a price that Rangers are willing to sell at.
