**Rommens blow hits hard**
Confirmation that Tuur Rommens is out for around a month is a hammer blow for Rangers. The on-fire Belgian left back has been the best signing Rangers have made for many season, and fit right in.
He has very much taken to Rangers like a duck to water, and Danny Rohl confirmed he picked up an injury on Thursday.
He is ‘scheduled’ to return around the second Split fixture but there is no guarantee the former Westerlo FB will make that date.
**Meghoma gap exposed**
In reality it’s the biggest loss Rangers could have had.
He is the engine on the left, who has kept the door well shut too, and sadly the miles-inferior Jayden Meghoma will have to deputise.
While Meghoma was not horrible v Utd, the right hand side for Utd was fruitful and they looked dangerous most attacks. Meghoma was away with his country for youth duty and it was his first Rangers appearance since Rommens secured that berth.
And it showed the gulf in class between the two.
It’s a problem. Meghoma is alright going forward but at the rearguard he offers little protection. And he’s going to be the only choice till May. That’s concerning alright.
**Title race implications**
Ironically of course Celtic have also just lost their main fullback, with Alistair Johnston also likely to miss the rest of the season we believe.
Certainly suggests we can’t blame the loss of Rommens for much – Celtic have a tonne of their own injuries to deal with.
Of course the primary concern is Hearts, and their being top. They will be stubborn to shift, and the reality is we needed Tuur to help do that.
Losing him is a big hammer blow for Rangers. Is it a league defining loss? We sincerely hope not.
