Ibrox Noise understands that there is legitimate interest in Rangers striker Youssef Chermiti after his very bizarre season at Ibrox. The Rangers forward, who of course starred for the Portuguese under 21s recently on the international break, has been a very controversial figure this season.
A Season of Extremes
After an incredibly slow start, especially based on the £11M transfer fee, the controversy was around him. Indeed his work attitude at the time led to an extremely unwanted striker, very unpopular on the team sheets with fans. That brace at Parkhead definitely changed perception towards him. Then his hat trick against Hearts further amplified this. Last but not least, his double against Celtic at Ibrox turned him into something of a cult figure.
However, those were the only three matches this whole season that Chermiti has actually delivered anything. Three massive matches, three bizarre aberrations. His numbers for the season are fairly average, but there is genuinely interest in him, and this is all down to a massively improved Rangers situation. Rangers fans might be shocked to learn this about Youssef Chermiti
Rising Value Amid Ownership Shift
Thanks to new ownership, Rangers’ assets have become more valuable. Any who shine in the media or on the pitch tend to have inflated values attached to them and greater interest. There has been a lot more interest on Rangers this season thanks to the new ownership and the fact of the title race. This is causing a level of interest in asset players regardless of whether they are actually playing that well or not.
This of course applies as well to Emmanuel Fernandez as we all know, and Chermiti is very much a symbol of this. His performances have not been marvellous and of course he was poor once again at Ibrox against United, wasting a chance or two to say the least. He is not a cultured finisher. And yet, somehow, in those three matches, he has shone. It is time at Rangers for Danny Rohl to ditch Youssef Chermiti
Transfer Interest and £30M Signal
But at the same time, clubs are taking an interest in him and that £13M bid rejected from Besiktas says that there are going to be numbers coming in this summer for him. With a high focus on Ibrox, he will not be the last Rangers asset player to have a big amount of rumours swirling around him. Sources Youssef Chermiti told by Rangers he can leave Ibrox
But the interest in him is real. Whether he will stay beyond the summer, we are not sure. Rangers fans will not be that heartbroken to see him go, but at the same time, the money would be helpful for a striker who is more reliable and finds the back of the net more often.
