Ibrox Noise had to poll our readers and find out their take on the various developments of the last 24 hours in Rangers fans Tavernier vote.
Raskin Captaincy and Tavernier Contract Situation
First of all, the revelation, as we’ve revealed, that Niko Raskin will almost certainly be the next captain, should Danny Rohl remain as Rangers manager over the summer, and we highly doubt that he will not. The other revelation, of course, was James Tavernier confirming that he has not been offered a new deal, as we’ve discussed in the previous entry.
However, Ibrox Noise wanted to poll the fans to find out, quite simply, what terms and fervour they had regarding a new deal for Tavernier, as we know, he’s out of contract this summer, and he’s been in the press inviting that new deal. However, what do the fans think? Did they want him to get a new deal?
Fan Poll Results
So, Ibrox Noise asked, we offered three options. Yes, no, and only on reduced terms. The answer and outcome was emphatic and shows the categorical view that Rangers fans have about James Tavernier.
Overwhelmingly, they simply wanted him to have a new deal. James Tavernier is currently on £37k a week. James Tavernier is not really a big part of the first team at the moment. However, Rangers fans sentimentally, perhaps, overwhelmingly want him to remain at Ibrox. There isn’t even the notion for a reduced package for him. They simply want his deal extended, end of story.
Social Media Reaction and Silent Majority
Was Ibrox Noise surprised? The reality is that the comment section on the page doesn’t really reflect the Rangers fan base as a whole. There tends to be a lot of rage, venom, fury, rationale, all mixes of different kinds of views.
However, the vast majority of Rangers of Ibrox Noise’s Facebook group, like with any social media, is that 95% of all members or subscribers or otherwise when it comes to social media, will never say a single word in the comment section. They will never contribute. They will, however, be willing to answer in an anonymous poll.
Very rarely will you get many more than about 100+ comments, even on the most controversial topics in an article. But when it comes to a poll, we are talking into the thousands of votes comfortably. This is because Rangers fans and many people don’t want to get involved in comments, putting their name out there and potentially getting abused for it. But they’re happy to put their vote to an anonymous poll where they won’t get a dig at them for it. That was the case in Rangers fans Tavernier vote.
Sentiment and Board Decision
And on that poll, the silent majority are clear. Tavernier is to be offered a new deal if they are to have their way. The simple fact is there’s a huge sentimental attachment with Tavernier, regardless of how well he does or doesn’t play for the club. Rangers fans have clearly recognised this. They want him to stay.
We will see in time if he gets his wish, but it is, at the end of the day, down to Danny Rohl, Dan Purdy, Cavenagh himself and other members of the board. The curious fact is that the majority, strong majority of these fans, do want Tavernier to get a new deal.
If Rohl does not offer him one, will those fans who back Rohl blindly continue to do so or will they strongly object to this and have a go at the manager? End of the day, we will see how this one plays out.
