This coming summer is being deemed internally as the 49ers Enterprises’ first proper planned Rangers summer as owners of the Ibrox giants. Last summer, 2025, of course, saw the completion of the 49ers Enterprises’ takeover of Rangers FC. It was ratified around May before Russell Martin was then appointed a month later. The pieces were put into place at a very urgent last-minute without pre-proper planning regarding recruitment and strategy.
First structured summer under new ownership
Danny Rohl ended up arriving after Russell Martin’s failure. His time in Govan has been a bit of a mixed bag at best. Regular readers will, of course, know Ibrox Noise’s thoughts on Danny Rohl. But nevertheless, this coming summer is regarded as the 49ers Enterprises’ first proper planned summer of recruitment.
There may or may not be an overhaul. But this is the first summer where the new owners are going into the summer completely established in place. This is with the recruiting, scouting, and financial networks already established to prepare for next season. Having that advanced planning, having that advanced, ‘warning’, and being able to strategise months and months in advance puts Rangers into a much better position than the previous ownership and regime that had nothing in place.
Financial backing and Champions League factor
There or thereabouts, they have invested at least around £35M into the playing squad. It has been decent numbers regardless. There is financial backing there, and a lot of it, of course, depends on making the Champions League league phase, which secures a jackpot of around £60M for Rangers.
That would make things a lot, lot easier. Unfortunately, yesterday’s defeat to Motherwell may have put paid to that one for good. Time will tell on that front.
Recruitment strategy already in motion
Nevertheless, the recruitment is an in-advance process. Players are scouted, departing players are likely to have already been confirmed internally. As we’ve explained, there are offers open for Thelo Aasgaard. Many others are definitely what would be described as ‘expendable’.
This is the first summer under the 49ers Enterprises’ first proper preparation where pre-planning gives few excuses to get it wrong for next season. Rangers fans will be hoping to go into 26-27 with a much more robust squad and a far stronger level of management.
Ibrox Noise do not want that to be Danny Rohl, but we do not get the final say. Nevertheless, there are no excuses now for next season. The pieces are there, the finances are there, and consequently there are no reasons to slack and get it wrong yet again.
Rangers do not look like a Rangers capable of winning a title or even remotely competing in the Champions League. But this summer is a chance to change that.
