Right on cue, Ibrox Noise sources have informed us that discussions have taken place internally at Ibrox regarding the future of Andreas Skov Olsen. Andreas Skov Olsen’s fee could be an issue.
We have learned Danny Rohl is not blown away yet by his big winter signing, and though Skov Olsen’s numbers are actually solid (3 in 7) the manager isn’t fully won over.
Fee
The discussions involve the fee.
Rangers have signed a loan with option for Skov Olsen, and at present, the fee is £9M.
But his displays have not yet delivered on that level. Rangers are already negotiating with Wolfsburg regarding a reduction in fee.
Wolfburg of course signed him from Bruges for around €15M but he didn’t live up to the pricetag or reputation.
Opening
This gave Rangers an opening and a £9M option fee was agreed.
But the Dane’s displays so far have not shone especially brightly and club bosses in Govan believe even if he is to improve, a knock-down price is possible.
In short, the chances of signing Andreas Skov Olsen for £9M based on current displays is next-to-zero. The only way Wolfsburg will make something back on their investment is to reduce the asking price.
And that’s based on ASO improving.
Expectations
This is not to say the Dane has been poor at Ibrox. But he hasn’t yet lived up to expectations and feels sluggish on the pitch. He’s not electrifying, put it that way.
Despite this, those 3 goals and assists in 7 is a good return and far better than his 4 goals and assists in over 20 for the Germans.
Simply put, Rangers are unlikely to make the deal permanent unless the Dane picks his game up, and even then, they may try to get him for less than the asking price.
If that’s the case, it’ll just depend how much Wolfsburg want to cut him loose. Andreas Skov Olsen’s fee will have to reduce.
We’ll see this summer.
