Rohl describes Thelo Aasgaard as ‘hard working’ and says he ‘always improves’

One player we’ve spoken about sparingly is Norway’s Thelo Aasgaard.

Overlooked for their camp this upcoming break, the ex-Luton playmaker hasn’t shone in Govan, and has rather lost his slot.

But one thing Rangers fans have agreed on en-masse about his contributions is how lazy he is.

All the talent in the world counts for very little if the workrate doesn’t match up.

And Aasgaard’s is lacking.

Which is why Danny Rohl’s comments today certainly raise an eyebrow:

“But I also have good players available. I think the 20 minutes from Thelo (Aasgaard) were great. He works really hard. I must say I have had a lot of players in the past, even when I was assistant coach, but when I see how mentally strong Thelo is, how he reacts again and again in training, he never drops and he always improves. This is great to see. But it is not just Thelo.”

If ever a comment was ‘we must be looking at a different Aasgaard’ this might just be it.

Rohl’s comments in the media have been pretty dire in 2026, with his backers always pointing at ‘doesn’t matter what he says, long as we win’. Alas winning hasn’t been happening a lot either this calendar year.

But we digress.

We know managers like to say positive things about their players, but only when it is convenient to do so. After all, Rohl’s comments on Cornelius have been markedly different. And to call Aasgaard a hard worker and say he’s mentally strong, not to mention how he always improves is about as out of touch as we can remember from a Rangers manager.

Almost as bad as the last one. Norway’s Thelo Aasgaard hasn’t been sparkling for us, has he?

We’re quite sure that daring to point this stuff out will attract derision, accusations of being tims and all the rest of it.

But when your manager is literally saying black is white, you have to point it out.
