Rangers appear to ditch what would have been very popular appointment

There’s been a little bit of talk on social media over the past 24 hours about a now deleted social media post on X by Rangers. The post concerned a tour around Ibrox alongside former Rangers captain Lee McCulloch, who would regale fans with tales of the club and other players. However, the outcry that this was not about reaction to Sunday and the chaos following the cup exit led to the social media team removing the post. And it’s highlighted majorly popular Ibrox appointment being dumped.

The reaction itself became a talking point among supporters. Some felt the timing looked tone deaf after the events of the weekend. Others simply saw it as another sign of confusion from the club’s communications.

Lee McCulloch tour controversy

There’s been a little bit of buzz about that particular topic. However, even more telling is the notion that the individual in question, Lee McCulloch, who would be hosting this tour, has been completely ditched in terms of the appointment that was supposed to be made about him.

If we recall, a few months ago Lee McCulloch, otherwise known as Jig, of course, was mooted for a distinct staff position at Ibrox. It was going to be some kind of sporting recruitment technical role that the former striker would take up in Govan.

There was a little bit of hype about it because at last a Rangers man would be getting a prominent position among the staff. But of course, as with all positive possibilities at Rangers, this has died a complete death. It vanished and failed to happen.

Ambassadorial roles at Rangers

Now once again Jig is back simply doing the ambassadorial role he’s been carrying out for the club for some considerable time. Of course many ex players carry out the ambassadorial roles for the club.

Mark Hateley is a particularly prominent one and Richard Gough too has been in that position. Many ex players carry out the duties of ambassadorial gigs in Govan quite regularly.

Rangers manager Danny Rohl doesn’t seem interested in this role.

Jig has been one of those for many a year as well. However the club planned to appoint him to a much more formal role. It was a much more technical staff based role that would help Danny Rohl considerably.

The forgotten Rangers appointment

But of course Danny Rohl has the final say on any appointment like this and that one died a death. Just like every other Rangers man based appointment under this potential regime or any previous one.

We cannot say that the Rohl era has been any better than any previous one. We also find ourselves sitting in third.

But we will leave the Rohl bashing for this article. We simply puzzle over why the club has forgotten yet another Rangers man.

Especially when he should have taken a prominent role.. And we’ve seen majorly popular Ibrox appointment ditched.
