Dan Purdy – the Rangers chief that no one talks about

Regardless of what position he is actually called, Dan Purdy has been at Rangers since summer, as so-called Technical Director.

He joined around one month earlier than Russell Martin, and was a key figure during summer recruitment and indeed January’s.

His gig at previous club Everton was Head of Recruitment, which clearly went so well that Everton ended up crashing under Frank Lampard, for example.

Dan Purdy was a key figure in the signing and sale of Youssef Chermiti for both Rangers and Everton.

Thelwell

Long-departed Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell got the flack on the chin for last summer’s transfers, but Purdy was a heavy component of it as well.

And it’s time for the Ibrox Noise performance review of Dan Purdy.

Well, if we shift the paradigm, that is that the summer wasn’t just Kevin Thelwell’s fault but Purdy’s as well, then it changes the picture a bit.

Purdy was a Thelwell ally at Everton, and when Rangers lost out on another in in Jonathan Hunter-Barrett Rangers fans were relieved.

Little has been spoken of Purdy’s role in Rangers’ chaotic season.

Expense

And maybe more should be made of his position in bringing a lot of the expensive rot to Govan.

January is definitely his baby, his and Danny Rohl’s.

January was overseen by him and his recruitment team, with Rohl playing a major part in it.

And we can’t say any of the arrivals bar Tuur Rommens have added a single thing to Rangers.

March

We’re deep into March. While the Happy Clappers will still spit ‘give him a chance ffs’ regardless, nevertheless Chucky, ASO and Naderi have not screamed of a £15M trio.

Rangers’ results since January have been pretty horrendous, and we now lie third.

So it’s hard to say Dan Purdy at Ibrox has had a good influence on the club, given his input.

Whether or not he really is the Technical or Sporting Director, his role is key.

And thus far, he’s not been that impressive.
