We have to laugh at Barry Ferguson’s rant about Scottish referees.
Don’t get us wrong, he’s not miles off with what he says:
“I think the standard of refereeing is well below the standard that is needed this season.
“Some of the decisions – you’re talking about the Celtic one that John Beaton doesn’t see when Maeda is pulled down for the penalty.
“I don’t understand why he doesn’t see it. He’s actually in a good position.
“I’m not just talking about that game. I think we could go on here for hours and hours.”
Not wrong.
But wildly missing the point that Ibrox Noise has been preaching for years.
Scottish referees are PART TIME.
How many times do we need to repeat this until the refs become professionally-trained and full time?
No matter how professional they are, they’re human, and will always make errors, but whining at a guy who during the week works full time as an accountant misses the issue.
The real issue is the SFA, the Scottish bigwigs refusing to invest the money to train up the refs and appoint them as full time officials.
And YES, this applies to VAR too.
The same part-time refs who make a balls-up on the pitch are the ones watching the monitors in the VAR room.
So complaining they’re not very good is like whining the rain is wet.
Of course they’re not good, they’re part time and half the time they’re refereeing an Alloa match at Boghead or something.
Until the SFA invests the cash to turn Scottish refs into full-time professionals, diabolical refereeing is all we’ll see in Scotland.
For now, expect continued dire decisions on the pitch and Rangers and Celtic fans complaining of conspiracies against their club. And Barry Ferguson’s rant won’t be the last.
Footnote: Rangers fans literally call John Beaton a f***** this and that, and Celtic fans call him a OB. He can’t be both, we assure you…
