The signing of Youssef Chermiti has proven to be a game-changer at Rangers. Obviously the impact of the Portuguese has been divisive and debatable, but the pricetag unmistakable and he’s nearly Rangers record signing.
£11M (with clauses), and just £1M below the club record for Tore Andre Flo.
And Ibrox Noise sources have learned Rangers are potentially willing now to break that record and potentially invest up to £15M-£20M on the right player if the right opportunity surfaces.
With the 49ers’ arrival, all previous bets are off.

Kevin Thelwell
Former Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell let slip last summer that Rangers had spent around £45M that window. That was the highest the club has ever spent in one single window and is the highest any Scottish club has ever spent.
Thelwell explained the net spend that summer was in fact £20M and not £10M, meaning the £35M reports were incorrect, given the sales had amounted to £25M.
Which demonstrates the financial muscle is now behind the club should the correct opportunities surface and Rangers’ hierarchy believes a player costing beyond the club’s existing transfer record is acceptable. And yes, this is separate to the £9M Andreas Skov Olsen will cost if it becomes permanent.
Chermiti
This is numbers the club couldn’t dream about only a few years ago, and they have already spent that £11M on Chermiti to show the spending power is there.
Would Ibrox Noise endorse that kind of spending on Rangers record signing?
Yes, is the simple answer. If the means are responsible and the numbers add up and don’t get Rangers in hot water, of course we do.
Viable
Naturally we’d have to hope it’s a half decent player worth that kind of investment, but it seems the club is willing to do so if such a player becomes viable.
To happily dump £5M on a German third division player suggests the club thinks nothing now of spending big to get what they want.
Whether we will indeed see such a gigantic spend on one player this summer remains to be seen.
