So is 56 gone now? What Danny Rohl has proven…
Rangers fans knew the day of reckoning was on top of us, with Motherwell, Hearts then Celtic awaiting.
These three matches would prove whether Danny Rohl’s Rangers had the cajónes to take their results up a notch, and really challenge for the title.
If Motherwell is anything to go by, the answer is clear.
Danny Rohl doesn’t have the stones to go all the way, and the squad remains well below where it needs to be.
Selection
After picking a weird cop-out XI which overlooked almost all new signings, Rohl then compounded it by mismanaging following the early lead.
There was no carpe diem here, no, this was passive. Motherwell took control, but couldn’t get that equaliser till too late for them.
This was Rohl’s big moment to truly shine when it really, REALLY mattered, and he sunk.
This is, alas, already, possibly as far as this manager can take this club.
Pressure
Danny Rohl has proven time and time again that he cannot deliver results in the critical juncture matches. We were done after the Hibs fail.
The one exception, against Celtic, was a fluke – let’s be honest. We were absolutely terrible, and Jack Butland and a freak from Chermiti was to thank for it. Rohl had nothing to do with that win. We loved it, boy did we love it, but it was a complete smash and grab against the literal worst Celtic in history.
We’re not saying sack him, because, honestly, we’ve seen this movie before and it’s a looping cycle.
We’re just saying that we don’t accept where we are now, but we don’t trust the 49ers to appoint a decent manager.
Backing
They really have backed Rohl, they backed Martin, and they HAVE put that cash where their mouths are.
That’s fair. We are a lot less wary of their intentions now than we were. They got rid of the gruesome twosome and the vibe has felt a bit better since then.
But unless one day we get a brave winning Rangers level manager like a Kevin Muscat, a Brian Priske or a Marco Rose, Danny Rohl picking Youssef Chermiti and fans melting in rage is the best we’re going to do.
Because Derek McInnes will be gunning for us this weekend. And the results Hearts are getting, St Mirren aside, are keeping them top.
We shudder to imagine what will happen v Celtic. Danny Rohl has proven he’s not up to it.
Game over for us. Sorry.
