If there was one little bonus last night, aside from the unveiling of the three new signings, it is the combined value of them.
The combined market value
Andreas Skov Olsen has a market value of around £12M. That is what Wolfsburg paid Club Bruges for his services. Tochi Chukwuani is valued at around £4M. That is what Rangers paid outright to Sturm Graz for his signature. Last but not least, Tuur Rommens has a value of around £3.5M to £4M. That is what Rangers paid Westerlo for his services.
What the numbers add up to
That means a combined total of around £20M of talent has arrived at Rangers. This is the kind of quality the club has been screaming out for for years.
Rangers have seen this before
Yes, Rangers have signed players with high market values before, particularly on loan. Who could forget Max Aarons, who arrived on loan with an £8M price tag. He has been a major disappointment. He has not played like an £8M player.
Other high value examples
Abdallah Sima also had a similar market value. He was around £8M to £9M when he arrived from Brighton. He did score goals. But he was not a great winger for Rangers. He moved on to pastures new.
Market value versus reality
There is nothing new about Rangers signing players with big market values. The proof is always on the pitch. What matters is the level they show in matches.
Why this window feels different
There is something reassuring about Rangers signing three players in one window. Their combined market value is around £20M. That makes a big difference. That is firm talent.
Antman context
We are also aware that Oliver Antman was judged by a Dutch expert to be worth around £30M. That was the estimated cost to replace him at Go Ahead Eagles. It was based on his stats and impact in the Eredivisie.
What the data really means
These numbers do not always mean everything. They are data based. They are forensic. But they still matter.
Why this matters for Rangers
Signing one player valued at £12M, one at £4M, and another at £4M to £5M matters. It is a stronger position to be in. Two of them are fully Rangers players.
The Skov Olsen factor
The loan to buy means Skov Olsen is effectively ours as well. If he impresses, he will sign permanently. He will become our player.
Final thought
£20M of talent arriving together is a real boost. It is a step up in quality. It raises the class of the squad. Long may that continue.
