It’s rare that Ibrox Noise gets this excited about a new Rangers signing. Over the years we really have had to deal with so much EFL slop or utter nobodies that the sign of anyone we actually knew was a big deal. But Rangers signing Skov Olsen is a big one.

Sadly the last time we moved for a big name was the appalling Aaron Ramsay whose spell at Ibrox was chronically dire. A borderline stain on our history, even if we were all excited at the time.

But Andreas Skov Olsen is one that Giovanni Van Bronckhorst nearly got 3+ years ago, only for the deal to fall through.

Steven Gerrard may have been linked as well, the Dane has been long listed as a player Rangers wanted.

And it’s not hard to see why.

For Denmark alone he’s got 18 assists and goals in 40 appearances – that’s a world class return.

And for club, it’s even better.

Brugge

For Brugge it’s 79 goals and assists in 124 appearances.

He didn’t shine as well for Bologna or Wolfsburg but for Nordsjaelland it’s 34 in 51.

In short, four clubs – two in which he soared like an eagle, two in which the league didn’t suit him. And stats for his country which are outstanding.

Rangers are looking at a loan deal, with, we hope, option to buy. Skov Olsen is by far the best player Rangers have attempted to sign probably in years.

Significance

Of course Rangers have made some significant signings of players who had great reputations or CVs.

John Lundstram was a lucrative free who came from the Premier League and had a big rep. In fairness he was good for Rangers but did fall short of the level we needed in his position.

Amad Diallo was the same window as Ramsay and struggled at Rangers – look at him now!

And Todd Cantwell came to Govan with a former market value of £50M – he did live up to that quality to begin with but his personality ruined it.

Ibrox Noise was also heavily in favour of the signing of Antonio Colak, but despite his sensational form it ended up going south for the Croatian. His career has been dead in the water since he left.

Butland

Jack Butland in 2023 was probably the last big name Rangers signed, even if there have still been players with good CVs in there too. We just didn’t really know of them.

But Skov Olsen we know. And Rangers fans are very, very excited about the potential of getting him.

A right winger of this calibre who is well aware of Rangers is a big coup and would be a bit of a game-changer in that position.

The one thing we’d wonder is if this means Danny Rohl is now going to make more use of wingers.

Oliver Antman, Djeidi Gassama, Mikey Moore and Rabbi Matondo, fit or otherwise haven’t really played as wide men under this boss.

Could Rangers signing Skov Olsen change that philosophy?

Well let’s get him first.
