Why can no Rangers manager ever make changes?

Any Rangers fan expecting a sudden change from Steven Smith’s Rangers was given a rude awakening on Saturday. Despite a promising spell in the first 45 minutes, it was much the same from Rangers at Ibrox. Smith is just an interim and no one was blaming him. He had a proud moment coming out to Ibrox as temporary coach and he did say that he was feeling a bit of the nerves. But unfortunately Smith pretty much picked the same team that Russell Martin used to. There was no change whatsoever and this is something that we at Ibrox have noticed.

No change under new coaches

With interim coaches and indeed new coaches, they don’t change anything. We wonder why that is. Steven Smith obviously isn’t exactly an overlord authority at Ibrox. This is in the sense that he doesn’t have necessarily the influence and power to just do what he wants. Unlike perhaps a Steven Gerrard in times gone by. And yet he was given carte blanche to take over the team, coach it, and manage it for the upcoming period. And still Steven Smith started the same EFL slop that has been starting under Russell Martin, just like Philippe Clement’s rubbish was the same as his predecessor.

Same mistakes repeated

We also remember Barry Ferguson making very few changes either. In fact, he made all the same mistakes too. He endorsed James Tavernier, he changed very few players and the team remained absolutely diabolical. We aren’t quite sure what the reasoning behind this is, that no matter who the coach is or who the manager is, when the change is made a new coach comes in and they just select all the same players and borderline the same system as well.

The question that won’t go away

Answers on a postcard for us on that one. We cannot fathom why no manager is ever willing to fundamentally change the whole team. Smith has carte blanche. Steven Smith’s Rangers has a blank book that he can just do what he likes and try out something different and yet even he, a good Rangers man with a lot of wisdom, still wasn’t willing to make any significant changes at all. It was exactly the same slop that has failed all season. The same kind of slop that failed all last season. So answers on a postcard why no Rangers coach, interim or replacement permanent, ever seems to be willing to change anything.
