The appointment of Danny Röhl Rangers manager has stirred plenty of noise. When reviewing his time at Sheffield Wednesday the win percentage (38%) clearly grabs attention. Rangers F.C. supporters and watchers alike question whether that record can translate into success down at Ibrox. Yet a new poll by Ibrox Noise shows a serious majority of Rangers declare they will back him anyway, which tells a rather surprising story. Even with doubts swirling around his appointment, fans seem determined to rally behind him.

Reality check on the win rate

Röhl took charge of Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023, and his record reads 89 games in charge, 34 wins, 19 draws and 36 losses for a win rate of around 38%. Many would view that as poor given the expectations at a club like Rangers. The club’s ambition demands higher returns, and the Ibrox faithful are well aware of that. Transitioning from his record to potential at Rangers requires belief in change, evolution and a new environment. According to Sky Sports, the collapse of Kevin Muscat’s move has simply accelerated Röhl’s path to Ibrox rather than created it.

Why so many Rangers fans say “we’ll back him”

Despite the numbers, the Ibrox Noise survey revealed that 70% of Rangers fans will support the manager regardless. Only 3% say they are outright happy with the appointment. Meanwhile 26% declare they are not happy and just 1% outright refuse to back him. That strong backing emerges even though the stats do not inspire confidence. So why does the belief exist? One reason is hope. Many believe a fresh start at Rangers under this appointment offers a clean slate. There are also echoes of the “back the manager ffs” attitude wild at Ibrox in previous appointments. Supporters often lean towards patience and give the manager a chance to prove himself rather than abandon him at first sign of trouble. That culture helps explain the divergence between the statistics and the sentiment. TalkSport noted similar fan resilience in previous managerial sagas.

What next for Rangers under him

The key for Rangers now is performance. Danny Röhl Rangers manager – backing the manager is one thing but he must deliver. He needs to improve results, sharpen the team and match expectation. The win rate from his prior job may limit patience but the strong backing means that if he can click early then momentum could build quickly. He must win big games, show tactical clarity and bring consistency. The Guardian argued that Röhl’s energy and modern coaching approach might give Rangers the spark they need. The environment at Ibrox demands it.
