Russell Martin’s position at Rangers appears more secure than many supporters would prefer. He met with Andrew Cavenagh recently and the two even took tea together. That kind of image does not suggest a club preparing to change manager. Instead, it shows an ownership very much behind Martin and his project. Rangers fans may find this hard to swallow but the alignment at boardroom level is clear. Rangers’ direction is not necessarily about delivering immediate success.

Ownership shows its hand

The meeting with Cavenagh matters because it demonstrates visible support. Owners often back managers quietly but this was public. Rangers’ chairman gave a strong signal that Martin is not about to be removed. Fans continue to shout loudly for change but the hierarchy is ignoring those voices. The owners believe they must stay steady despite the noise around them. Rangers need stability in their eyes and Martin provides it.

Fans and media want action

While the club shows patience, the media and fanbase demand the opposite. Rangers fans see poor results and they call for action now. Media outlets echo these complaints, pointing out the lack of progress on the pitch. It means that pressure is building even though the board is not listening. Supporters sense the gulf between their passion and the ownership strategy. Rangers fans always want winning football but the boardroom seems to focus on financial planning instead.

Settling for now

This situation leaves Rangers in an awkward position. The coach has strong backing from Cavenagh but little from the terraces. The gap between fans and ownership grows as every match passes. However, Martin’s position does not look in danger today. Rangers have effectively decided to settle for now and ride out the storm. The ownership believes their goals stretch beyond short-term fixes. Martin stays because he fits those aims, not because fans accept him.

The message could not be clearer. Russell Martin remains manager of Rangers with his job intact. Andrew Cavenagh has shown his support both in words and actions. The board stands firm even though media and fans keep calling for change. Rangers fans may hate it but the reality is set. The club is sticking with Martin regardless of the outside pressure. For now at least, Rangers are not shifting course.
