Rangers fans have most definitely turned on Russell Martin. The case against the Ibrox manager grows day-by-day amid Derek McInnes for Rangers.

The current evidence is how well most of his players did for their countries this international break, while toiling under his terrible guidance. Add this on top of the Derek McInnes fallacy whereby with 11 new players and himself as a new manager, the Hearts boss tops the table with his club.

Martin

Meanwhile Martin’s 13 new players and new manager languish in 7th in the same league. Having had an easier start.

No, the McInnes factor is huge right now – the give him time brigade has gone very quiet. Not only with how bad Martin has been, but how McInnes hasn’t needed any under identical circumstances.

There is, of course, a caveat. Regulars know Ibrox Noise always sees every side and tries to be reasonable and fair.

Weight

And that side is that the weight of the Rangers shirt is much heavier than at Tynecastle, so the pressure on Hearts doesn’t quite match what’s on Rangers. This means Hearts would find it ‘easier’ to perform than Rangers.

But if you can’t perform in a Rangers shirt, you shouldn’t be in it.

Consequently that excuse is thin at best.

The fact is Rangers players did well for their countries, but not for their club, while McInnes is showing how it can be done if you have an iota of quality in the dugout.

Is this a ‘McInnes for manager’ article? Not especially, just a dig at the ‘give him time ffs’ crew who have, admittedly, dwindled down to almost zero in the fanbase.

Unfortunately they were significant till a month ago, and that’s half the reason Rangers are in this absolute mess. Fans accepting or defending rubbish until it’s too late and the damage is done.

Well it has been done, and now we have to count the cost of potentially £45M wasted on terrible players and a dire manager who is only getting worse.

Derek McInnes for Rangers? In truth, we wouldn’t say no at this point….
