Super Ally McCoist, happy birthday by the way, has officially, just about as clear as he ever has, hinted at Russell Martin’s time at Rangers being beyond breaking point.
Appointment
McCoist of course was one of those many fans who backed the manager to begin with. He initially believed he was a good appointment. But then over time he has understandably and predictably changed his mind on the topic, and without directly demanding Martin be fired, has hinted at it nevertheless.
Recently on TalkSport, Super mentioned that Sean Dyche has been out of the management game for a while. He has ‘even been mentioned for the Rangers job’. The simple use of that language, of McCoist saying that Dyche has been mentioned for the Rangers job, is about as close as McCoist has come to effectively hinting that the Rangers position is up for grabs.
Martin
Russell Martin is of course still in the job, and not doing a very good job at that. But it’s well understood by the majority of Rangers fans that he is not the man for the position. As we mentioned in our previous content, of course it’s the owners we need to protest against, not strictly Martin himself. But nevertheless, ignoring semantics for now, McCoist has clearly made a statement that the job is effectively vacant.
The simple fact is, Martin’s time has been an absolute disaster. Rangers were stopped from going bottom by Dundee United last night, which is literally embarrassing beyond words. That would have been the first time in history that Rangers had ever been bottom of the league this deep into the season. Really, really poor.
McCoist, like everybody else, will know this. But nevertheless, he had been very reticent to speak ill of Martin’s position. It seems that mask has now finally slipped, and McCoist has joined the rest of us.
