Mystery surrounds one player’s future at Rangers after manager Russell Martin suggested that left-back and all other positions were filled for the training camp at St George’s, leaving just Brazilian Jefte and potentially Robbie Fraser as Rangers’ left-back options as Ridvan trained separately.
The Turkish international, who has been at Ibrox since 2022, has long been speculated as departing and trained away from Rangers’ training camp rather than with the group, with manager Martin confirming that the Turk left-back was indeed elsewhere at present.
The fact that Martin has excluded Ridvan has been clarified further by Martin, who has said that those who were not at the training camp main proper were either doing other things or were injured or would be leaving.
That basically means those who didn’t participate in this session were pretty much done at Ibrox.
He did also suggest that those who weren’t there were not there also, potentially because the squad was 25 and that was enough.
But at the end of the day, Ridvan surely would have been part of that squad had he been figuring in the manager’s plans.
It has also been confirmed that he, aside from Ben Davies, Jose Cifuentes, Leon King and one or two others are indeed definitely done at Rangers, with the manager confirming essentially that they will leave and are surplus.
In terms of Ridvan, well time will tell.
We did like him a lot, but we’re not sure he’s ever really settled at Rangers.
Yes, he has learned the language and he’s actually been quite good at times, but he’s never held down a place for particularly long without injury curtailing him.
Jefte, for right or wrong, seems to be the first choice there, which is not exactly overly inspiring, but that’s what Martin wants.
So it now seems that Ridvan’s Rangers time is up.
We will find out what happens to the Turk in due course.
