So here we are at the start of a new football financial year. That is what many Rangers fans have been discussing in recent weeks regarding the lack of action in terms of incomings. Obviously Rangers’ transfer window, like everybody else’s, started early last month, but only one signing has arrived – and that was a loan.
Since then there has been much speculation but absolutely no arrivals. Many fans have suggested, or outright claimed, that this is down to financial rules. That Rangers would not be making any new major financial investments until the financial year had officially begun. Well, that’s today.
So in theory, if these supporters are correct, Rangers fans should finally start seeing some movement in the next few days – never mind weeks. We have barely three weeks until the Champions League qualifiers begin. We are already well into pre-season.
Now is the time that the financial year has started and allegedly the players will start to arrive, if you believe and buy into that theory. We are not entirely convinced here at Ibrox Noise, but nevertheless we will give it the benefit of the doubt. The idea that the new owner’s investment could not be deployed until the financial year ticked over is at least plausible, especially with players like a former Eredivisie midfielder being linked.
We are not totally buying it, as we say, but we will give it a shot anyway. We will, quote-on-quote, give it a chance FFS – and why not?
So hopefully now, Rangers fans will start to see players arriving properly, money being spent, and a real shake-up to the squad. Because let’s face it – the Rangers squad as it stands is pretty dire. It definitely needs some reinforcements, and fast. Let’s hope these fans are right.
