Rangers fans will be encouraged to learn that not only does new signing Nasser Djiga have 14 appearances in the Champions League (2W, 1D), but the season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers also boasts an impressive stat that will help Rangers no end.

While his time in Switzerland with Basel was his longest spell at any one club (three seasons) and he did only play 22 times for them     he only lost four of those 8 (league) matches at a club widely-regarded as ‘must win’.

However it gets a lot better than that – at Red Star Belgrade, the current Serbian champions and definite must-win, Djiga never lost a single league match of 35 that he played for the Easter Bloc giants, meaning for a must-win club, Djiga must definitely knows how to win, which is exactly what Rangers need at the back.

He’s only 22 and yet he won the league there even if the Serbians elected not to retain him permanently – we suspect cost reasons were the main hamstring.

So not only have Rangers now got a lad with some Premier League experience and a market value of £10M, he’s a title winner with a must-win club of the same kind of gravity of Rangers.

This is definitely more of the calibre Rangers required.
