Well well well – justice has been served at Ibrox, and the new regime has wasted absolutely no time. Nils Koppen, the utterly disastrous Head of Recruitment who somehow conned his way into a promotion as Director of Football, has been binned. Thatās rightādumped by the very people now trying to clean up the mess he helped make.
Letās not sugar-coat it. Koppen had two chancesātwo January windowsāto show his worth. And both were nothing short of catastrophic. In January 2024, not a single signing made a lasting impact. In January 2025? Even worse. We got Jefte, who never kicked a ball. Diomande, full of running but no end product when it mattered. And CortĆ©s, who couldnāt stay fit to save himself. Yet bizarrely, after that shambles, Koppen was promoted.
It was a jaw-dropper at the time. Even the official announcement barely acknowledged his nameālike the board knew how absurd it looked. And fans were rightly raging. We were told this was part of a grand āstructureā. But we saw it for what it really wasārewarding failure.
But not this time. The new boardroom groupāled by the incoming investors and decision-makersāhave clearly taken one look at this guyās CV and booted him out the back door. Theyāve made their statement. The circus act is over, and weāre now seeing actual accountability at Ibrox.
This isnāt just good newsāitās vital news. For far too long, incompetence has been allowed to linger at this club with no consequences. But now? Now weāve got serious people making serious calls. Getting rid of Nils Koppen isnāt just the end of a bad chapterāitās the beginning of a new one.
And with Kevin Thelwell firmly in the frame, the tone has changed. Weāre looking at pedigree. Real experience. Not a guy hiding behind a desk while the team flounders.
So, farewell Nils. You wonāt be missed. In fact, this might just be the most welcome sacking weāve seen in years. The new regimeās hereāand theyāre not messing about.
