Jose floored as Rangers Thursdays do it again
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MARCH 13: Barry Ferguson, Head Coach of Rangers FC, celebrates with his player Jack Butland following victory in the penalty shoot-out in the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 Round of 16 Second Leg match between Rangers FC and Fenerbahce SK at Ibrox Stadium on March 13, 2025 in Glasgow, Scotland. Rangers’ Midas touch in the Europa league continues that regardless of who is playing and who is manager this club just keeps doing it at that level.

After a rampant first leg in Turkey where Barry Ferguson’s men managed three goals with just one reply, the advantage was very much at Ibrox in the first place but doing it is still another thing entirely.

And indeed the performance on the night ended up a fourth home defeat in a row which is the first time that has happened in Rangers’ entire history.

However, as we of course do know Rangers achieved the recently unlikely which is winning a penalty shootout.

This is not something we excel at and indeed Ibrox noise has been on record as opposing a penalty shootout for many years.

It is a terrible way to decide a football game and is a little more than a lottery.

But when it goes for you as it always does for the winners, the misgivings one has over a penalty shoot out get buried.

The fact is that Rangers have some kind of Indian sign over the Europa league and can slay even the biggest sides in this tournament.

In truth Ibrox noise didn’t really have any doubt that we would go through and our Derek very much predicted that too.

It is hard to put any kind of gravity or judgement on the performances under Barry Ferguson given the fact that we do not know if he will remain manager going into next season or indeed the make up of the squad going forward after the summer.

All we know is what it is right now. Dreadful domestically and staggering in Europe.

Indeed over the last five years Rangers have contributed double the coefficient points that Celtic have was just goes to show how strong Rangers are at that level.

Can we win the whole thing? It’s about time we did.
