With Rangers Academy product Alex Lowry currently in discussions with Wycombe Wanderers it appears to be the end of the playmaker’s Rangers career.
Of course that is to say that he ever had one in the first place, but it is safe to say that Alex Lowry is a quintessential example of a youth player with so much potential but who didn’t come close to realising it at Ibrox.
He first emerged under Giovanni and while he lacked a bit of power and could’ve done with a bit of meat on his bones the talent was clear to see and Rangers fans truly believed we had a natural number 10 on our hand.
Unfortunately, those early days under Giovanni were as good as it got for young Alex and rumours of attitude issues as well as injury problems must certainly beset his career.
While we would not speculate on the truth about his attitude and those behind the scenes speculative tabloid tales it only took a preseason video for Rangers fans to see the issues plan as day. On being instructed by his manager to focus and concentrate Lowry just appeared to ignore him and shrug his shoulders.
And his loan spell at hearts was supposed to prove his ability at this level and give him a fitting back into Rangers, but it would be safe to say that he was utterly poor there.
And since then, has been nowhere near Ranger’s picture.
Some Rangers fans used to excuse his issues on the passing of his mother admittedly a very tragic event at his age and speaking from experience losing one’s mother at a young age is world changing. But the last thing a mother would ever want from their offspring is for them to give up and go off the rails. So we are not sure we would use that excuse even if of course he would be entitled to compassionate leave.
We knew a long time ago that the boy was not going to make it at Rangers and we began to also fear he wouldn’t make it in football at all, but hopefully this move finally refocuses him and starts to see him realise his actual talent.
Because it will never happen at Rangers.
