Some Rangers fans are wondering why John Souttar, whose new deal has been confirmed on the table for the Scotland international, hasn’t as yet signed up for the club on extended terms and who rather evaded the topic when asked.

Manager Philippe Clement confirmed recently that there is a contract offer for Souttar to improve his terms and tenure at Rangers, and with the defender now completely entrenched as Rangers’ number one stopper and arguably in some of the form of his life, he’s one Rangers supporters definitely wish to see remain at Ibrox longer term.

Clement said:

“It’s on the table and it’s progressed when things are arranged. So that’s not the case yet. So, we will see what’s going to happen next couple of months. He still has more than one year and a half to go. But he knows that I’m happy with the evolution he made and it shows also in his play. For sure he’s been our best defender this season, the most regular one in our team. And he progressed really well.”

So long story short, Souttar isn’t quite happy yet with the terms offered, and will sign when he is.

When a player doesn’t just sign an offer immediately, it means the details offered aren’t yet what they want. Whether it’s pay, length, bonuses or any clauses, Souttar isn’t quite content with Rangers’ offering.

In many ways, we can understand an asset player taking his time before signing, but at the same time Rangers supported him for two years while he was injured, and it’s thanks to the club’s support that he is where he is.

So hopefully both parties can resolve this soon.
