Ibrox Noise is picking up a rumour (this is absolutely not one of our sources) this morning that Danish legend Simon Kjaer, who was last seen bestriding the San Siro with AC Milan with distinction, is being viewed as a possible addition to Rangers’ ranks amid John Souttar’s injury and a lack of quality at the back.

The 35-year old, who formed an outstanding partnership with England’s Fikayo Tomori for Milan’s only title in recent years, found himself down the pecking order and was released in the summer. He is yet to find a new club.

Kjaer is an outstanding defender, with Lille, Milan, Sevilla and Wolfsburg on his CV, but unfortunately has had a fair few injuries in his time too and much of his career in the north of Italy was plagued with absences.

He does seem to have gotten over most of them and if there’s any truth in this rumour, it would add a hugely-experienced and absolutely world class defender to Rangers rank – there’s no question of his ability, but his age and injury history are obstacles to many clubs over taking him on.

He also isn’t the quickest – Rangers do lack pace at the back, with only Leon Balogun having any kind of speed in his legs – Propper and Souttar most definitely are not fast and Rangers have no one else there, thanks to poor work in recent transfer windows.

Is this one real? We’ve no idea, but we’d take him.

On the balance of things, we’d rather have a world class defender extra or two than not.

He’s certainly a boatload better than Propper.
