From the same source that exclusively told us that Joe Aribo’s contract extension had failed and he’d be leaving Rangers has come the news that Philippe Clement and Cyriel Dessers’ relationship has deteriorated and the Nigerian is no longer an important member of the Belgian’s squad.
With Brazilian Danilo and Moroccan Hamza Igamane now forming a performing duo up front, the ex-Feyenoord man has been relegated to the bench and it’s safe to say few Rangers fans are overly disappointed by this.
With both Igamane and Danilo getting on the scoresheet in recent matches, Dessers’ importance has indeed reduced to Clement, and it’s now being claimed by that same source that the former number one choice is to leave in January to get more minutes.
In truth, Dessers’ numbers at Rangers are not half bad, and on paper a lot of clubs would be happy to take him on, but it is being posited as more likely to be a loan deal if anything.
With 10 goals in three matches, or 14 in 4 including Nice, Rangers’ strikers are starting to find an iota of form now, and Dessers has been placed down the pecking order.
If he is to be sold in January though, let’s hope the ‘marquee’ negotiators that got £810,000 for 5 players last summer are not the one involved in this transaction…
