After our earlier poll suggesting Rangers fans are marginally in favour of bringing ex-winger Ryan Kent back to Govan, Ibrox Noise can offer our own take on this.
Absolutely 100% yes.
This was never a player we at the site wanted to lose, and to this day we are frustrated by the circumstances which led to his exit.
Kent was completely settled in Scotland, he had a big house with his partner and we gather they had horses too.
He was not someone we believe was unhappy in Scotland, but we will admit Rangers fans got harsh on him in his final season and his head did go down.
Why?
Because no deal had been done – fans got frustrated with Kent and were becoming hyper-critical of him, and this in turn got back to him and suddenly his form hits the floor and the relationship broke down.
Let’s be clear, on his day he was unplayable. He tore apart Celtic, Dortmund, Wien, Hearts – ‘again’.
Yes, he was a brilliant player for us, and the failed £10M Leeds bid is an example of his qualities.
That his career went the way it did was a mess and a bit of a tragedy.
Why was no deal done with Kent?
Because he didn’t want to play under Michael Beale. Despite him having lots of good words to say about the coach he’d worked with at Liverpool, we believe their relationship soured at Ibrox and he felt he’d have to leave.
And fans turned on him without knowing that, and he was now public enemy number one.
He is a belting winger – quick, hard-working, and almost always fit.
A free agent in Kent would be a no brainer and we honestly think Rangers is where he wants to be, despite our not being at our best these days.
We’ll see if this one happens.
I was never that big on him tbh. Yes, he could tie an opponent in knots, but his end product was never the greatest. He’ll probably end up in big wage England.
