We had to laugh this morning with Football Insider nicking yet another Ibrox Noise story, and while the Jordan Henderson rumour was very much already out there, it was Ibrox Noise who pointed out how light Rangers are in midfield, how young the midfield is, and how it badly needs a leader and an alpha in there. Like the former England international.

Lo and behold a day or so later Football Insider produce their ‘exclusive’ that ‘sources have informed’ them that Rangers seek an alpha defensive midfielder because Philippe Clement thinks the team is too light in midfield.

Well no sh*t Sherlock we’d say?

Rangers 100% need a Barry Barry in there, absolutely, it’s as plain as anything, and we haven’t one since the man himself left.

Steven Davis, Maurice Edu et al back in the day filled in decently following his departure, but a massive titan in midfield, a-dare-we-say-it Callum McGregor is badly needed in the middle.

As we say, we had one in Barry, but didn’t come close to replacing – we briefly believed more recently that John Lundstram could be that man but he just didn’t lead and didn’t dominate matches at all. He really wasn’t that great for the club.

But you don’t need an exclusive source to tell you Rangers badly need that player again, that we need a talisman in the middle to lead.

Barry’s exit has been keenly felt, he was our man in there, unfortunately after the Loch Lomond incident and his loss of the captaincy his Rangers race was run in 2008, and he left the following year.

And we have sought a replacement ever since, and never managed to find anything.

Is Jordan Henderson that man?

He is a big talisman, he’s a huge personality, and he could clearly handle Rangers and our demands.

But whether it’s he or anyone else, you don’t need ‘exclusive sources’ to tell you we’re light in midfield and need a big titan in that slot.
