Rangers manager Philippe Clement endured yet another hapless night as Ibrox boss, demonstrating his ineptitude once more as the Famous tumbled to a dreadful 1-4 loss at the hands of clinical Lyon.
However, did this change fan opinion of the Belgian manager?
Yes, yes it did.
Around two to three months ago Ibrox Noise polled the supporters and found about 93% were completely in favour of Clement, trusting him implicitly.
This fell more recently to 76% following yet another bruising defeat to Celtic.
And after Thursday night’s latest shambles Clement is suffering his lowest approval rating to date, with an Ibrox Noise poll revealing concerning numbers for the boss.
Just 55% of Rangers fans polled now endorse Clement, with 26% wishing him to leave and 19% being undecided.
It means 45% do not outright believe in or trust Clement, and readers to Ibrox Noise will be well aware this is one rare time we’re very much 45rs ourselves.
Clement has been abysmal, truly abysmal.
He was achieving results for the first 4 months or so, but they excluded beating Celtic, and his League Cup triumph of course didn’t face the Parkhead lot.
But since February March Clement (on all levels) has been an unmitigated shambles, and the claims of ‘judge him on his own team ffs’ have faded into ‘sack the board’, then ‘give him time ffs’ and now the goodwill for him is downright reducing.
We’re seeing the strongest level of acrimony towards Clement that we think there has been since he joined, and while some fans claim he’s had no money, well, that’s a lie.
£16M in the summer (including a £10M winger on loan), while signing a theoretical £40M striker in Fabio Silva in January alongside a £4.5M winger in Cortes. He paid for the weak Diomande this summer.
So let’s not act like Clement hasn’t had resources, he has.
Rangers languish behind Aberdeen in the league, and are being taught lessons in the Europa League.
Kieran Dowell ffs…
