“Doesn’t have a clue – 0” – Rangers rated v Lyon
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 03: Philippe Clement, Head Coach of Rangers FC looks on prior to the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 match between Rangers FC and Olympique Lyonnais at Ibrox Stadium on October 03, 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)

Well it’s safe to say Rangers didn’t have the best night in the Europa League this evening.

In fact, it’s safe to say it ranks as one of the club’s worst performances in a tournament Rangers are often so strong in.

Ibrox Noise ranks the lot, and we can confirm it isn’t pretty:

Butland:

Beaten too easily several times, made few claims and just looked out of his depth. 4

Tavernier:

Destroyed repeatedly down the side by the livewire Fofana, and was unable to deliver much attack-wise after Cerny’s horror miss. Was, for the first time we recall, taken off tactically. 3

Souttar:

Failed to cover for Fofana and was left exposed repeatedly by Tavernier. The partnership with Propper also collapsed entirely and there was just no understanding between them. 4

Propper:

Completely sunk without trace in this one, didn’t look anything like sturdy. Did manage to clear the ball a few times but so what? 3

Jefte:

Until the Cerny miss he was looking bright, and offered a bit on Rangers’ left, but once the goals rained in he was lost. 5

Barron:

We stand by what we’ve been saying, Barron’s been off it for about a month, the last three or four matches well below the great height he started at. Has too much pressure on his shoulders and has completely sunk in the big matches. His shocking error tonight an example of how his manager hasn’t been protecting him at all. But he also hasn’t been hiding. 4

Diomande:

Was this guy even out there? Seemed to do very little, a sharp contrast to his bright performance in Malmo. 3

Lawrence:

Same review as always – a surprise goal and nothing else. 5

Bajrami:

Showed his class quite a few times and without doubt Rangers’ best player. Managed several dribbles, and this is all while playing out of position. He’s a talent. 7

Cerny:

Oh dear. Abysmal before the miss, then that miss killed him. Actually, the miss in Kyiv killed him in the first place. Has lost all that early promise and looks completely at odds now. 3

Dessers:

Yeah, he worked hard as anyone but didn’t get the breaks – didn’t actually miss much, had to feed off scraps. Can’t be blamed for any of this. 5

Subs (selected):

Dowell:

Fans are exasperated as to why he came on. 3

Kasanwirjo:

He did stabilise the right a bit, but could obviously offer nothing going forward. 4

Manager:

Well you know what’s coming, don’t you. You Happy Clappers can make up all the excuses you like, and you will, but this guy is hopeless. Completely hopeless. Tactics were suicidal again, just like v Benfica, and he didn’t fix anything that went wrong. He brought Dowell on! Philippe Clement doesn’t have the slightest idea what he is doing. 0
